The Stage is Set For CFR Final Sunday

Steffanie MatherEDMONTON, AB – Medicine Hat cowgirl, Steffanie Mather, is poised to bring the Canadian barrel racing championship back north of the border for the first time since 2010. Mather and her 14 year old cow bred gelding, Siksikas Buck have won $40,878 through the first five performances of CFR41 to bring their season earning’s to $61,711.

The 25 year old, at just her second Canadian Finals, carries a $13,000 lead into Sunday’s final round and leads the average as well by a comfortable 4/10 of a second over Season Leader Britany Diaz.

“I came in hoping for a better finals than the first time I was here,” Mather said. “I was confident coming in and was hoping for six good clean runs. Lisa (Lockhart) is an idol of mine and Britany (Diaz) is a friend – to do this well against these girls is wonderful.”

Coy RobbinsThree young men, all first time Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifiers, were awarded their championships at the Saturday evening performance.

Steer Riding Season Leader Coy Robbins, from Camrose, Alberta picked up two firsts and a share of the round three win for a total of $7,940.32 and the 2014 title. The 15 year old talent also won the Calgary Stampede Novice Tour earlier this season.

Eastend, Saskatchewan cowboy Dantan Bertsch came into the CFR as Season Leader with $7447 to his credit. Three firsts and two seconds this week added $8320 more for a total of $15,767.37 and the championship buckle.

Season Leader, Jake Vold, wrapped up his first Canadian title with an impressive ride on Kesler’s Mile Away. “I feel like I’ve accomplished a major professional goal.” said Vold, learning the early numbers indicated he’d been named the champion. ”And heading into my first WNFR, wearing  the buckle that says ‘Canadian Champion Bareback Rider’ will mean the world to me.”
