Points:
The Elite Jr Steer Riding Tour will operate on a points-based system, with contestants earning points at each participating rodeo. All events on the tour will adhere to C.P.R.A. rules.
Points Allocation:
- 1st Place – 60 points
- 2nd Place – 50 points
- 3rd Place – 40 points
- 4th Place – 30 points
- 5th Place – 20 points
- 6th Place – 10 points
All contestants who enter will receive 25 points, but contestants must attempt to ride to earn points, turn outs will not qualify for any points.
Tour Rodeos:
~ Rocky Pro’s Out West Rodeo – Rocky Mtn. House AB – June 5-7, 2026
~ Wainwright Strampede – Wainwright AB – June 19-21, 2026
~ Fort Macleod Midnight Days Pro Rodeo – Fort Macleod AB – June 24-26, 2026
~ Bowden Daze Pro Rodeo – Bowden AB – July 10-12, 2026
~ Rockyford Pro Rodeo – Rockyford AB – July 24-25
~ Strathmore Stampede – Strathmore AB – July 31-Aug 2

Finals: At the conclusion of the 2026 season (including any Tour rodeos scheduled after September 1st) the Top 6 Point Earners from all Tour rodeos will qualify for the Tour Finals at the Maple Leaf Circuit Finals during Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, which has been confirmed as the Finals location.
The Tour Finals will include both day money and an aggregate payout. Finals will be a clean slate, no points from the regular season will be carried over. The aggregate will be awarded based on total ride scores over 3 performances at Finals.

Day money earned at the 2026 Finals will count toward the 2027 C.P.R.A. standings.

Jr Steer Riding C.P.R.A Rules
1. Riding to be done with one (1) or two (2) hands and loose rope, with or without hand-hold; no knots or hitches to prevent rope from falling off steer when rider leaves it. Rope must have bell; no bell, no marking. Bell must be under belly of steer.
a. All steer riding cattle must be approved by a CPRA event director.
b. If a contestant starts with one (1) hand, they must finish with one (1) hand. If they start with two (2) hands, they may change to one (1), but then rides under the one (1) hand rule.
2. It is mandatory for steer riders to wear a protective vest, a CSA approved helmet, face mask and mouth guard while competing in the steer riding.
3. No more than two (2) people may help pull contestant’s rope. Rope may be pulled from either side.
a. The rider shall not be allowed to reset and repull the rope more than two (2) times if the animal is standing well in the chute.
4. Contestant will have the right to call judges to pass on whether or not steer is properly flanked to buck to the best of its ability.
5. Steer will be ridden eight (8) seconds; time to start when animal’s inside front shoulder passes the plane of the chute. If rider makes qualified ride with any part of rope in riding hand, they are to be marked.
6. Rider will be disqualified for any of the following offences:
- Being bucked off
- Touching animal with free hand
- Using sharp spurs
- Fouling animal by holding gate
- Leaving the chute with feet in their “knots”
7. If a qualified ride is made until the flank comes off, a re-ride shall be optional, but it need not be on the same animal.
8. Suitable cattle must be steers, heifers or small cows, between seven hundred (700) to eleven hundred (1,100) pounds. If suitable cattle are not available, the event will be cancelled.
9. If a steer riding is held at an Association approved rodeo, or special event, must follow the guidelines of the Association.
Maple Leaf Circuit Finals Ground Rules:
1. Chute Procedure – From the time the Chute Boss or Head Judge signals a rider that they may attempt their ride attempt, they must swiftly complete the process of mounting the steer/cow, warming up and pulling their rope, and nodding their head to initiate the chute gate opening. A rider will be allotted up to ninety (90) seconds to complete this process. The Chute Judges shall have full discretion to pause anytime within ninety (90) seconds if the steer/cow is not in a position to allow the rider to initiate the ride. The Chute Judge will continue from the point the process was paused when they determine the steer/cow has settled. Should ninety (90) seconds expire without the Rider nodding for the steer/cow, then the Chute Judge will determine whether to award a Re-Ride or a Ride Disqualification.
2. Going on the Clock- If the Back Judge determined that a Rider is not making a fair and honest effort to complete the Chute Procedure. Regardless of whether ninety (90) seconds has transpired, the Back Judge may give the Rider a verbal warning of being put On the Clock and initiate the 30-Second Chute Clock. Once the 30-Second Chute Clock is initiated, the rider must call for the steer/cow within thirty (30) seconds, regardless of the steer/cow’s behavior, or they will be Disqualified. Once the 30- Second Chute Clock is initiated it cannot be stopped/delayed by a Judge.
The Back Judges shall have complete discretion regarding the fairness of opportunity for a Rider’s ride attempt and all other Chute Procedure matters unless there is a review subject to automatic review by the Replay Judge.
