It was a good weekend for Quade Hiatt.

Make that a real good weekend for Quade Hiatt.

The Canyon, Texas tie-down roper won one of three Canadian rodeos this past weekend and was second at the other two in fashioning a $7572 payday that should see him solidly in the top ten in Canada when the newest set of Canadian standings appear.

The 25 year-old was 9.2 seconds at the Grande Prairie Stompede for a second-place finish (behind Logan Bird) and added the runner-up spot at Leduc’s Black Gold Pro Rodeo with an 8.6 (behind Shane Smith), then topped the field at the Hand Hills Stampede with an 8.4 second run. The weekend’s trio of successes fits nicely with the plan the 25 year-old has set out for the year.

“I’d like to get my rodeo count and earn enough money to qualify for the CFR,” he acknowledged. “That would have to be my second biggest goal.” The first, of course being a return trip to the NFR where the talented cowboy ended up 5th overall in his first appearance in Las Vegas.

Hiatt, who is the grandson of Hall of Fame steer wrestler/roper, Butch Myers, nephew of legendary brothers Rope and Cash Myers and the cousin of another Hall of Famer, Ty Murray, is quickly putting together a series of rodeo highlights of his own to add to the family legacy.

Riding Juice Box, a horse he has owned for just a month, Hiatt, who earned $196,000 in 2024, had nothing but praise for his new mount. “It seems like every time I’ve rode Juice Box up here I’ve drawn good and he’s made my job really easy. I’m just the monkey on the machine,” he chuckled.

Hiatt and traveling partner, Luke Potter, along with Canadian host and buddy, Clay Elliott will be hitting all four scheduled Canadian stops this weekend in the hope of solidifying his place in the Canadian tie-down roping fraternity with that all-important Canadian Finals Rodeo as the end goal.

Young Black Diamond, Alberta bull rider Holden Atkinson, was another hand who enjoyed a solid week of competition as he garnered the win at the SMS Equipment Pro Rodeo Tour stop in Grande Prairie with an 87.5 point effort on Vold Rodeo’s 308 Splash Tide for $3063.20. The Montana State University student then connected for 83 points and a second-place $767 cheque at Hand Hills.

Bradi Whiteside continued her pattern of stringing together successes in two events. She earned the breakaway roping win at Grande Prairie as her 2.4 second run bested the field – good for $2243. The Longview, AB competitor followed up with a winning barrel racing run at Leduc courtesy of a 13.37 second navigation of the cloverleaf pattern, adding a tidy $3243 to her weekend earnings total, then finished it off with an 11/12 split in the barrels at Grande Prairie’s Stompede for another $610.

It was highlight reel stuff in the bronc riding at Grande Prairie as Logan Hay put up a spectacular 91.5 ride on the Vold Rodeo bucker, 614 Fancy to give the Wildwood cowboy $2974 and a critical SMS Equipment Tour win. And right on Hay’s heels was the hottest Canadian bronc rider of late, Kolby Wanchuk who put up a 91 pointer for second place.
