The rodeo community extends condolences to the family and friends of Benny Hern, who passed away September 24th at 79 years of age. Benny was a Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifier, winning the All Around title in 1977.

… from Ben’s family

Benny Hern was one of a kind – a legend.

He lived life to the fullest, played hard, and loved deeply. A professional rodeo cowboy and Canadian All-Around Champion, Benny was never one to shy away from adventure. From bull riding to bungee jumping and skydiving, he was an undeniable daredevil who lived with a fearless spirit. His life packed a punch – literally and figuratively.

Benny married Jane in 1968, and together they had two children, Casey and Vandy, whom he loved dearly. His grandsons were also a great source of pride and joy, and he treasured watching them grow into fine young men. In 2006, Benny married Kathy, the absolute love of his life – someone as fierce, adventurous and as full of life as he was. Together, they travelled the world and created countless memories. Yet, despite all their travels, two places always held a special place in Benny’s heart: the wide-open spaces of the Alberta prairies, and the sunshine and ocean breeze of Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

Benny lived life on his own terms, left his mark on everyone who knew him, and will forever be remembered as the legend he was.

At Benny’s request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, to all his family and friends: raise a glass, share a story, and remember the life of a truly unforgettable man. ¡Salud!, Benny. You will forever be missed.
