When the first three rounds of CFR 51 haven’t gone your way, you can make a choice — either stew about what hasn’t worked, or make a new plan to get your share of the money left to be won over the two remaining go rounds. If you choose the second option, you can play the role of Saturday Morning Spoiler, where your success may interfere with other competitor’s championship plans.

Stay tuned to read about a few competitors who want to roll in for Round 4 to take home their piece of the prize money.

BAREBACK RIDING

  • Cruz McNulty, Brett Williams, Chett Deitz and have each covered all three of their horses so far this week, but would love to earn a few more points to make their way to the pay window. With McNulty on Duffy’s 4 Banjo, Williams aboard Calgary’s F-01 Forgetful Nelly, and Deitz on another Calgary horse in B-12 Bigtimin Houston, they have some great opportunities to do so before lunchtime.

STEER WRESTLING

  • Tim Kemp has worked too hard and traveled too far to not see some success out of these finals, yet he has three no times to his name. The Ontario veteran has multiple CFR appearances to prove how capable of a steer wrestler he is, and he will show it on Saturday morning.
  • Layne Delemont did split 2nd in round 3, but with a no time on Thursday night he will want to keep pushing the barrier to keep things rolling.
  • Cody Cassidy also earned his first cheque of CFR 51 on Friday night, but after also going out of the aggregate on Thursday, the 6-time Canadian Champion will make some great runs on Tyson Saturday.

NOVICE BAREBACK RIDING

After a hard fought battle all season long, young Quaide Skjonsberg finished the 2025 season as the Canadian Novice Bareback Riding Champion after a sensational 84 point ride on Friday night. Defending champion Jace Lomheim gave him everything he had, and managed a respectable 79.25 score, but fell short in his title defense.

JUNIOR STEER RIDING

  • With their final chance to show what got them to CFR 51, young Cecil Baynton wants to make his last ride on C-Bar’s 903 Black Mary his best one. After watching Tanner Loring ride her to the whistle in round 3, Baynton knows what he has to do.
  • While he placed last night and has qualified rides in all three rounds, second generation hand Stetson Hallaby would love to move up in the aggregate, and going home with a go round win aboard C-Bar’s fan favourite 46 ManEater would be icing on the cake, after seeing her put Jax Torkelson down before the whistle last night.
  • The title might be almost guaranteed for Ryder Topolinski after earning a third consecutive score, but this group of riders will make their last rides memorable on Family Day at CFR 51.

NOVICE SADDLE BRONC RIDING

After riding a total of six bucking horses over three rounds, and close to 150 horses since the start of 2025, Clay Greenslade walked back to the chutes after riding his saddle bronc Friday night knowing he had successfully earned his first Canadian championship.

BREAKAWAY ROPING

  • Aubrey Ross has been snake bitten so far at these finals, which makes her the perfect Saturday morning spoiler. With many variables in play for the top contestants, the fastest event in rodeo can change in a hurry, and Ross will see that it works out for herself.
  • With only two ropers having times on all three calves, Caitlyn Dahm’s no time Thursday doesn’t hurt so much, especially after she put up the first sub 2 second run Friday. She has an outside chance at a Canadian title, but at the very least can make the final calculations harder for those ahead of her.
  • Bobbi Henderson has made plenty of fast runs on her way to CFR 51 and will look to be a factor on Saturday morning.

LADIES BARREL RACING

  • With season leader Jayden Wilson sitting well ahead of the pack, everyone can play the role of spoiler to a degree, but Caitlin MacArthur, Madison Wilkerson, and Lisa Groves have shown consistency in keeping all of their barrels standing, but will no doubt want to find the adjustments that can help them break through and take home some go round money.

SADDLE BRONC RIDING

  • Lucas Macza has had a quiet CFR by his standards, but a matchup with Vold’s 910 Renegade can help him make some noise.
  • Similarly, Dawson Dahm did not come to Rogers Place to go home empty handed, and finding his name beside Macza’s 728 Texas Tough, which took Quinten Taylor up near the top of the leaderboard on opening night, will help immensely.
  • Ben Andersen has had a great finals, including a victory lap after Round 3, but a date with C5’s -81 Lacey Mae will help keep him in the mix for an aggregate title, and keeping more go round money for himself and out of the other top bronc riders can make him a real spoiler.

TEAM ROPING

  • Grady Quam and Logan Groves definitely have the makings for a Saturday morning spoiler, as they want to break through after a no time fit in between a couple of 5 second penalties.
  • Jesse Popescul and Rylan Brost had two solid runs that fell just outside of placing over the first two rounds, but a no time on Friday night will push their plan from thinking about the aggregate to pushing to the top of the go rounds.

TIE-DOWN ROPING

  • The youngest of Garnett and Myrna’s trio of tie down roping sons, Jason Smith, hasn’t had things go his way so far. With a new day in front of him, we will get to see how fast he can be.
  • For Austin Hines, picking up a cheque on Friday night helps put the struggles of the first two nights behind him. The young gun will come ready to fire on Saturday.
  • Bo Pickett found a fifth place cheque on Friday to claim his first earnings of CFR 51, and after making three solid runs sits deep in the aggregate, right behind several of the major players in the Canadian title race.

BULL RIDING

  • For the bull riding, two rounds can change the entire picture, and for Coy Robbins, Lonnie Phillips, and Jhett Wheeler, having one score on the board already sets them up to play a big part in the battle for the Bull Riding title. With three bulls that bucked their first riders down in Calgary’s G13 Grand Funk as well as a pair of Vold bulls in 176 Just Cause and 308 Splash Tide, they have their work cut out for them, but they know how to ride some of the toughest bulls in Canada.
