Round 5 comes down to championships, and we will see who has their event taken care of, and who still finds themselves in the fight for the buckle.

BAREBACK RIDING

Clint Laye has the event under control with a qualified ride in round 5. Even if he moves around a bit in the aggregate, with the top 5 contestants only 5 points apart, the Cadogan, Alberta cowboy has made use of his head start coming into CFR 51.

STEER WRESTLING

Although these calculations are unofficial, after sweeping the first four performances, season leader Scott Guenthner is well placed to earn another 2025 Canadian Championship.

JUNIOR STEER RIDING

Congratulations to Ryder Topolinski, who finished all four rounds with a score to maintain the lead he entered CFR 51, claiming the Canadian championship.

BREAKAWAY ROPING

As the first major event with multiple potential winners in round 5, no times in the afternoon performance for Jenna Dallyn and Bradi Whiteside opened the door for Caitlin Dahm to enter the picture, as she took second place this morning after winning round 3. Whiteside still sits in the lead but will want to make a solid run tonight, especially if Dahm makes another fast run. Other competitors can play a factor depending on catches and misses, as the aggregate can change in an instant.

LADIES BARREL RACING

Gleichen’s Jayden Wilson may not have placed in round 4, but the second time CFR qualifier had moved into the lead in the aggregate and now appears to have all but cemented her first championship.

SADDLE BRONC RIDING

After Zeke Thurston completed yet another victory lap with an 88 point ride, along with Nicholas Patterson coming up unsuccessful in his challenge of a missed mark-out, the Big Valley juggernaut has a sixth straight Canadian championship in his sights.

TEAM ROPING

Two teams in, it seemed like the Saturday afternoon section of Team Roping would be smooth and fast. Then a series of misses from some of the top contenders left Kash Bonnett and Logan Cullen suddenly in greater control of their championship destiny, while also stepping into the aggregate lead. Despite only holding less than a $10,000 lead over season leaders Kavis Drake and Denim Ross, their string of no times leaves them out of the aggregate picture.

TIE DOWN ROPING

A longer opening night run combined with some fast times from his closest competitors bumped Kyle Lucas down a couple of spots in the standings. After digging in to confirm his first trip to the NFR in Las Vegas last weekend, he has since placed in three straight CFR rounds, including a go-round win on Friday night. The Carstairs, AB cowboy now finds himself with the greatest control over the 2025 title.

Sophomore tie down roper Stran Dunham has had the reverse results of Lucas this week, placing out of the money for the first time on Saturday afternoon, while also seeing him overtake the lead in the aggregate.

Clayton Smith has an outside chance if some things break down for the front runners, but a lot would have to change. The buckle won’t be handed to either of them; we will have to see who steps up on tonight.

BULL RIDING

Riding all four of his bulls would normally guarantee Jared Parsonage a championship before the start of the final performance, but season leader Jacob Gardner rose to the occasion on Saturday afternoon to claim his third score of the week, ensuring that tonight can end up going either way. If both athletes fail to make the whistle, Parsonage would take the title again, while if if only Gardner stays on, or places ahead of Parsonage, he will be the champion.
