Maple Leaf Circuit Finals Kicks Off at Agribition

November 27, 2024

The fifth annual Maple Leaf Circuit Finals got off to an exciting start tonight at Regina, Saskatchewan’s Canadian Western Agribition. And veteran cowboy Curtis Cassidy showed them how it’s done in the steer wrestling. The man who has won twelve Canadian titles in a stellar career and just snuck into the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 2024 appears determined to get some of the heavy lifting out of the way a little earlier in 2025.

The Donalda, Alberta cowboy cruised to a first go-round win with a 4.0 second run to pocket the first place cheque of $1583.74. With three more rounds and an aggregate still up for grabs, the win was exactly the start Cassidy had hoped for.

While the MLC Finals money counts in the 2025 Canadian standings, it also serves as the finale for the 2024 Maple Leaf Circuit. Cassidy’s go-round win also boosted him to fifth place in the overall Circuit standings, still $5000 back of the leader coming in – Ryan Schuckburgh who took a no-time on this night.

For 2019 Canadian Barrel Racing Champion, Brooke Wills, it was a different story as she built on the lead she had coming to the Circuit Finals. Taking advantage of running on the top of the ground, the Arras, British Columbia cowgirl turned in a rapid 13.75 second run to extend the margin she has over Jayden Wilson, who came to Regina in second spot on the Maple Leaf leaderboard.

Overall, the Maple Leaf Circuit features 10 top contestants in each of the eight major rodeo events, decided by monies earned through the season at Maple Leaf Circuit rodeos. During Canadian Western Agribition, the Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo runs over four nights (Nov 27-30, 2024) with a total purse of $120,000. The MLCF Champion in each event qualifies for the National Finals Rodeo Open taking place in Pikes Peak, Colorado next July. Saskatchewan’s highest-paying rodeo is also it’s best attended, with more than 23,000 fans packing the Brandt Centre. Thousands more will watch every performance of the new Maple Leaf Finals on The Cowboy Channel.

For those attending in person, the Brandt Centre doors open at 6 pm and the pre-show is at 6:45 pm central standard time.
