Vold 4 for 4 at First #WranglerNFR

LAS VEGAS -- December 7, 2014 -- Jake Vold has won money in every round thus far at his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Tonight in round four, Vold split sixth with million-dollar cowboy Richmond Champion, both registering scores of 81.5 points earning $1,532 each. To this point, the 2014 Canadian Champion Bareback Rider has earned $21,863 and sits in a tie for third and fourth in the aggregate. Kaycee Feild still leads the world standings by just under $50,000 even after placing out of the money tonight.

Curtis Cassidy had trouble with his steer tonight in round four after he fell the wrong way leaving him with a time of 17.7. Cassidy sits tenth in the aggregate. Luke Branquinho only took four rounds to move to first in the world standings, he's won $56,547 in four nights.

2012 Canadian Champions Dustin Bird and Paul Eaves won second this evening in the team roping to move into second in the world on both sides of their event. Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill lead by less than a round.

There was a miscommunication this evening in the saddle bronc. Dustin Flundra made a ride that ended up being scored 77.5. 42, 41, 41 and 31 were the numbers put up on the screen; however, the announcers said they saw a flag but thought they saw someone give Flundra a free roll too. Five rides later, the score was taken off the board and the judges ruled Flundra wouldn't be given a score due to missing his horse out. 77.5 would have been fifth in the round for $4,904.

As my Dad told me when I was a kid though, "Coulda, shoulda, woulda doesn't cut it" Dustin said afterwards "Oh well, I've got six left." There's a lot of money left to win here in Vegas and Flundra is riding well.

Spencer Wright won the round tonight on a Calgary Stampede bucking horse by the name of Mata Fact with an 84. Evening Mist from Franklin Rodeo looked impressive bucking off Bradley Harter at the whistle; Taos Muncy remains first in the world after a fifth place finish on Simply Marvellous - also from the Calgary Stampede.

2013 Canadian Tie-Down Roping Champion Timber Moore tied for third this evening after a run of 7.5 to pick up $9,654. Cody Ohl missed and Marty Yates was 6.7 to win his second round of the week.

Fallon Taylor wore a helmet for the second straight night and won round 4 with the fastest time of the week, a 13.85 increasing her lead in the world standings. After six years of qualifying, these are her first two go-round buckles.

"It's the coolest thing ever. Two round wins means more to me than anything, especially after such a rocky year last year. And after putting in a lot of hard work when nobody was watching - all the long hours in the practice pen with the blood, sweat and tears," Taylor said. "To now be able to showcase all the hard work on such a national level is really rewarding and Baby Flo deserves all the credit."

Fallon Taylor is by far the most talked about lady at this year's NFR. She credits her fans for their encouragement.

"They are the reason I stay inspired to keep doing this because it's not an easy job," Taylor said.

Taylor's adding to her already impressive following along the way.

"I want to make sure to build a brand that will last for years to come. Martha Josey has built something that has lasted for years and she is a hero of mine. I am simply trying to follow in her footsteps and be able to teach the next generation about barrel racing," Taylor concluded.

In the bull riding, Beau Hill received his second score of the week. The Columbia Falls, MT athlete was marked 78 points to finish fourth on a night when only four bulls were covered. Sage Kimzey won his second consecutive round moving within $8,000 of crossing the $200,000 mark in season earnings and leads by over $40,000. J.W. Harris failed to make the whistle.

Quote of the Day
"Education is important but I went through first grade and I learned what 22 plus 23 plus, 22 plus 23 is. You know what that is, are you ready? 45, 45 that's 90 points. I was like 'Thats all I need to know, I'm outa here,' " - Dale Brisby
